This letter is rather long and double sided, but please do take the time to read it.
As many of you will know, it’s SHOW TIME THIS year. For our new families, we have a large production show every two to two and a half years, usually a run through, dress rehearsal and two performances on the Saturday, we do not finish too late in the evening. All children take part in each performance.
Our SHOW TIME will once again be at:
The Magna Carta Arts Centre, Thorpe Road, Egham, TW18 3HJ (Staines)
SATURDAY 25th JANUARY 2020 (2 performances)
Other important dates for your diaries are:
RUN THROUGH ON SATURDAY 18TH JANUARY from 9am onwards-approx time
DRESS REHEARSAL SUNDAY 19th JANUARY helpers 9am & dancers 11am – approx times
(TINY TOTS WILL NOT BE ALL DAY) at The Magna Carta
ALL REHEARSALS MUST BE ATTENDED
REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY SHOWS YOUR CHILD HAS BEEN IN, THEY NEED TO HAVE DANCED THEIR NEW DANCES ON THE STAGE (THERE IS A VERY BIG DIFFERENCE FROM DANCING AT THE WERFA TO DANCING ON A BIG STAGE) AND FEEL CONFIDENT IN ORDER TO PERFORM TO THEIR BEST ABILITY ON SHOW DAY.
We try very hard to make it as professional as possible, with a stage, lighting, props, and most of all great Showtime dances with fantastic costumes. We also have it filmed and photos taken in costume. Thanks to our amazing fund raising we will have even more spectacular lighting again this year.
We now buy in our costumes but we do still however NEED YOUR HELP. Are you a proficient or basic sewer, and happy to make slight alterations or hand stitch poppers etc?
I average £25.00 – £45.00 per costume. Sometimes it’s a bit less for the little ones and a bit more for the older ones. If we do not get offers of help with sewing you may be given your own child’s costume to do any slight alterations needed.
DRESSING ROOM HELP
YOU ARE AS IMPORTANT AS THE PERFORMERS ON SHOW DAY!
The day of the show is such a wonderful experience for the children and the audience, but it is only possible if we have at least 20 mums helping in the dressing rooms for each performance + 10 each performance for quick changing. The idea is to watch 1 performance and help at 1 performance and the dress rehearsal. All helpers from both Shows will be needed to be with the children at tea time. The dress rehearsal is not only for the performers, but for all backstage helpers too. We have a meeting for dressing room and backstage helpers the week before. This is to meet each other, explain the running of the show and all it involves and which dressing room you will be helping in. We don’t have mums helping in their own child’s dressing room, as over the past 28 years it has proved to run more smoothly this way for the children. I’ve been told by many of you that although this task is a hectic one, it is also fun and very rewarding. I am hoping our dancing Mum Dawn Lyddon will once again be heading up our team of dressing room helpers. Thank you, Dawn.
Also needed are a few parents, men, and women for each performance and dress rehearsal, to sit at the entrance to the backstage area where the children are and to be around the school entrance and cafeteria while the show is running. The safety and security of our children are my number one priority. We no longer have Jon Lucas to head our parent security and we are looking for someone to take this role on!
REFRESHMENTS DURING THE INTERVAL AND RAFFLE
At the Magna Carta there is a bar run by Magna staff. We will however be able to sell ice creams provided by them. We will need parents to sell them. We also have a marvellous raffle, with prizes provided by parents. Please start to send raffles prizes in. Thank you.
FRONT OF HOUSE
I am hoping our dancing Mum Michelle Hunt will once again to help organise and run front of house. Thank you, Michelle. On Show day this is a really important and busy time and we really do need plenty of parents/grandparents help.
Help is needed selling raffle tickets and programmes, taking tickets at the door and showing the audience to their seats and selling ice creams in the interval. Thank you, Michelle.
END OF SHOW HELP
At the end of our very long, tiring, fun filled day, I have the much needed and gratefully received help of a few families, clearing the dressing rooms and leaving them and the whole area as we found them. Taking down the stage sets etc. It was requested by a few of these wonderful people at the end of the last show that I ask for DADS in particular to stay behind and help at this stage of the day. As someone said to me many hands make light work and means we could all go home an hour after the show rather than 2 – 3 hours after! Therefore, Men we need you, even just for a short time. Please put you name down.
When you fill out the deposit form and you are offering your help in the dressing rooms, please state if you have a DBS certificate. Thank you.
Over the years, we have built up a wonderful team of parents that are involved in helping make the SHOW a success for your children. If you would like to help in organising the liaising with costumes, front of house, raffle and tickets, dressing rooms, PLEASE MAKE THAT CLEAR ON THE DEPOSIT FORM OR SEE MYSELF, HARRIET or MEG. THANK YOU. Many of you know Michelle and Dawn and they are very eager to start as soon as possible to create a dream team of DRESSING ROOM PARENTS and FRONT OF HOUSE HELPERS.

To save on paper and ink deposit forms need to be printed from the website. SHOW letters and forms and info can be found here. FINALLY, thank you in advance for your much needed support, input and help to make this such as special and memorable occasion for our children. I know from your feed back, about how much you get out of it as a family if you all get involved, on any scale, and that you find it a great way to meet other parents from our family orientated run dance school.
There will be a full School (not including our Tiny Tots) final rehearsal at The Werfa one day after school the week of the Show 4.45 – 6.30pm. This day and date will be confirmed next term.
